We can always expect a great music video from the multi-Grammy winner but “The Man” is full of Easter eggs. Unrecognizable playing a man, she brings to life how differently the world views men and women. The 30-year old singer is firing subtle shots at Scooter Braun and makes references that allude to the 19th amendment, and Serena Williams’ 2018 US Open match.
Swift’s face gets transformed using prosthetics to look like a man to the wonders of makeup and CGI to make a video that is just as suggestive as its lyrics.
“The Man” is a selfish boss who shouts at his employees, a character having no respect for people around him who feels entitled to do anything he wants: puffing on a cigarette on the Subway, yelling at a waiter, urinating in public, marrying a younger woman.
Swift takes aim at the male double standard – and some famous men in particular. She also includes her dad in a cameo appearance as a tennis umpire.
“My dad making his acting debut as ‘unimpressed umpire’ is a memory I’ll always cherish,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to the entire cast and crew for helping me become the man I always knew I could be.”
