At Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, the 4 days annual event that draws thousands of spring breakers and music fans across the country every March at Sunshine Grove in Okeechobee, there was a lot happening this year to captivate revelers and the music lineup continues to be very wide-ranging.

Among the surprises was breakout indie-pop singer and songwriter Ella Vos who performed on Friday, March 2 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on the Here Stage.

Ella Vos’ critically acclaimed debut album, Words I Never Said, is out now. The album features her viral hits, “White Noise” and “You Don’t Know About Me,” which have over 48 million and 10 million streams to date, respectively.

An emerging singer, songwriter and visual artist from Los Angeles, Ella Vos is part of the current movement of young, mostly female, pop artists creating music with an explicitly feminist angle. However, Vos is unique because she decided to become an artist when she was pregnant with her now 2-year-old son. Her debut album, Words I Never Said, was inspired by challenges she faced as a new artist and mother. Her songs often touch on taboo subjects, like postpartum depression (“White Noise”), abortion and women’s reproductive rights (“You Don’t Know About Me”), and each have strong messages of hope and empowerment.

Of her debut album, Vos says, “Words I Never Said is an album about my experiences and feelings I’ve encountered over the past 22 months. It truly is words that I’ve been too afraid to say out loud-for fear of being vulnerable, too feminine, too weak or too emotional. Well so be it, I am all those things! I’m proud of it, and I think we need more of it in the world today.”

Words I Never Said continues to receive critical praises. Vos’ songs have over 100M Spotify streams to date, and they’ve soundtracked shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Catfish,” “Life of Kylie” and more.

Ella Vos, who writes pop with a fierce feminist perspective, has been making a name for herself in the music space. From what I’ve seen on her video presentations, Vos seems to be one of those artists whose true captivation comes from her live performances.
